Songtow directed Golden Triangle Tour

I don't know how many years I have wanted to get to the golden triangle. Maybe it was the stories I heard during my misspent youth, maybe it was all my reading 30 years back about the old silk road, maybe it was more recently with all my travels in Thailand over the last eight years. Where the wanting originated is fun to think about, but really it was the feeling of accomplishment or a dream fullfilled. It was great to get to the Golden Triangle and see the intersection of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand.

Highlights too our trip into the Golden Triangle are many, they include;
  • Our decision to not use an organized tour and figure it out ourselves.
  • Being accompanied by Lisa's new friend Rebecca (an aussie met in her 3 day retreat).
  • Negotiating a 1200 bhat songtow trip to the Golden Triangle and back (turned out the songtow driver also became our tour guide).
  • Standing in the Golden Triangle.
  • Visiting the Hall of Opium (very worth the cost).
  • Getting there and back at 1/4 the cost, and being able to set our own schedule (almost).
